Editorial Services

Expand the sections below to learn about the editorial services I provide. Please note that for all manuscript editing assignments, I require disclosure of AI use before beginning work and may charge a higher fee (as with editing highly technical language) if your text requires “humanization.” If AI use exceeds a certain threshold, I may decline your project. At no time will I use AI to provide my developmental editing, line editing, or copyediting services.

+ Writing Coaching and Consulting

Much of my career has involved 1:1 writing coaching and consulting over a longer duration than a single manuscript. In this practice, your ongoing goals are the assignment, and I help you advance them. In action, this can look like: designing and taking you through a bespoke writing course to support your development as a writer, serving as a brainstorming and accountability partner, assisting with dissertation or proposal development, or providing business/program consulting (including writing) for ongoing strategic communications needs. I offer these services on a per-week, monthly, 6-month, or yearly retainer basis. Serious about starting? Contact me to set up a free discovery call.

+ Developmental Editing, Line Editing, Copyediting, Proofreading

It’s not just what your writing says that creates results. It’s also where (structurally) and how (tone and stylistic choices). I provide developmental editing, line editing, and copyediting services for book-length creative and academic manuscripts, as well as for short-form articles, op-eds, fiction, and CNF. For proofreading, I accept work from publishers only. I do not offer proofreading as a stand-alone service for authors (spelling, typographic errors, and the like are automatically corrected in any author manuscript I edit). Tell me the type of manuscript you have and the level of editing you’re hoping for, and I’ll let you know how I can help.

+ Read-only Services

If you’re looking for a professional reading of your work, with feedback that provides insight but does not involve implementation of editorial solutions, ask me about: beta reading, manuscript evaluation, sensitivity reading, submissions reading (for publishers), and reading to identify conceptual clarity and accessibility of academic material for non-academic audiences.

+ Writing/Ghostwriting

These days, I mostly save my writing energy for my own manuscripts. However, I have a substantial history of writing-for-hire (including placement in internationally recognized publications and fundraising results in the multi-millions), and I’m happy to discuss potential assignments. In writing for others, I focus on high-level policy/think pieces and strategic documents such as presentations, fundraising appeals, and grant proposals. Get in touch if you think we’re a fit.

A Note on Fees

People are equal. Pages are not. Due to high variability in subject matter, language, project scope, intended audience, etc., I set fees on a per-project basis. Specialized work (e.g., STEM or business/marketing content) is billed at a higher rate. My expertise commands high-end rates; however, I occasionally offer discounts or scholarships. I believe in equity and that the right editorial match shouldn’t depend solely on financial resources.
